In November 2023, a first pre-campaign was conducted with the SWUF-3D fleet in the WiValdi research wind farm in Krummendeich. The wind farm is equipped with a high number of different wind measurement sensors, e.g. lidars, microwave radiometers and met masts equipped with ultrasonic and cup anemometers.
More than 25 flights were carried out performing measurements of the turbulent wind field with up to 11 UAS simultaneously. For example, the upstream and wake of a wind turbine were measured, sensor positions of the met masts were replicated with the UAS, allowing these measurement positions to be moved in space. Flight pattern with a horizontal range up to 250 m were carried out to measure longitudinal and lateral coherence. The strategies for spatio-temporal in-situ measurements will be further enhanced in future in order to collect a more comprehensive data set.
